An immersive, interactive,
live theater event

San Francisco and Alcatraz Island provided an incredible palette to create and present several original multimedia performances simultaneously - a live-theater event entirely encompassing the famous prison. The event integrated aerial acrobatics, dance, digital media, live scripted performances, and virtual reality audio immersion.

Presented as a design collaboration between SHN Theatricals, U.S. National Parks Service, Stanford's Arts Institute, Design School, and Theater and Performance Studies Department.

WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING?

The NIGHT

On the San Francisco dock, guests had their prison passports checked and discovered a hidden blacklight stamp! At 7:30 sharp, Pete the Prison Guard and a group of 12 characters separated the guests into prisoner-inmate groups and led them onto the boat. The groups, specifically designed to break up people who came to the event together, began the interactive experience exploring and viewing Alcatraz as never before.
