SAINT ANASTASIA'S Finishing School for Werewolves
Lillian and Neva Wardour, 11 and 13-years-old sisters, are shape-shifters born to werewolf parents. Surrounded in an idyllic forest, the sisters grow up shifting back-and-forth freely between being human beings and majestic wolves. However, their parents, Cynthia and Jefferson, like all other werewolf parents, are prisoners of the full-moon. Their generation is cursed - unable to control their violent transformations.
Lillian, the younger assertive sister, establishes herself as the "Alpha" among the first children. Her accommodating big sister Neva resigns herself to being the pack's "Beta." Neva could care less since, in a few days, Lillian's petty little hierarchy won't bother her any more. Saint Anastasia's and Saint Francis' Finishing Schools are coming to collect all 13-year-old wolf children. However, when the schools' violent Woodsmen arrive and brutally hogtie Neva and the other 13-year-olds, Lillian refuses to let go of her older sister's hand. Lillian, the little "Alpha," is beaten and dragged away to Saint Anastasia's - a cold strict world made of white marble. At the school, Lillian tries to instigate the other wolf children to trash their pristine new home. Neva, on the other hand, becomes the picture of perfect assimilation - she speaks proper English, walks gracefully, and blossoms under the strict guidance of the school's clergy. Neva grows closer to the nuns, but Lillian grows angrier and angrier with her big sister. Their sibling rivalry festers. Margaret, a trouble-making student even smaller than Lillian, refuses to perform the simplest school task. Filthy and unable to speak, Margaret looks to Lillian as her personal "Alpha." Lillian feels both protective and ashamed of her strange disciple. The new class learns of the annual race to the top of Mount Cervin - a legendary bridge between Heaven and Earth built by "The Sky People." However, news breaks of a vicious murder in the nearby human township. Blame settles on the werewolf parents and their shape-shifting children. Tensions rise at the schools. Angry and frustrated, Lillian attacks Margaret and inadvertently reveals her powerful and terrifying secret - she can shape-shift into a violent. werewolf at will. An angry mob of humans scours the forest for the girls' werewolf parents. The sisters and their classmates come up with a plan to save their forest home ... (more to come) ... |
A peek into the creative nestSaint Anastasia's is loosely based on personal biography, the American Indian Residential Schools of the late 19th Century, and the buffalo and wolf hunts of the western frontier which nearly eradicated these majestic creatures.
The story leans on recent literary traditions like Harry Potter while tracing the coming-of-age adventures of a group of friends with mystical abilities. |
